Tourism as Seen From the East
As I came to realize, for many people in Bhaktapur who had little education and little interaction with foreigners both the words "American" and "tourist" signified all people from "developed" industrial countries around the globe. People with more education or who tended to have more interaction with tourists had more nuanced notions. In Bhaktapur, tourism is seen both as advantageous and as disadvantageous to the city.
